Nick Reddan's Newspaper Extracts
(now including Simon de Montfort's extracts (work in progress))
— part 78

The data in my extracts includes entries that interest me from various Irish newspapers from 1720 to 1865 sorted by family name. Simon's extracts references from Longford / Leitrim / Westmeath / Roscommon and were previously on his site LONGFORD ANCESTRY in a different format. They add some bredth and richness to my own efforts.

List of newspapers and where they might be found

Main families covered by my extracts include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them.

SMITH a. CREED.
March 2

The Lord Chancellor, this day, decreed the Lease for lives, renewable forever, under which the Defendant holds the lands of Ballynanty, in this County, void, and directed an injunction to issue on the 1st of November next, to put the Plaintiff into possession; and, on Wednesday, he stated, at the seating of the Court, that, on turning the matter in his mind, he was of opinion that he could pronounce no other Decree but that, as he conceived that the Defendant's case ought to have been brought by a Cross-Bill, as well as in her answer to the Bill filed in this Cause. He would withhold the notes of the Decree till the first day of next Term, to give her an opportunity of filing such a Bill if she should be so advised.

When the happy moment arrived, however, no bridegroom appeared, the minister and other parties waited at the church in vain. The fact was, he was bought off by the officers of a neighbouring parish, on his promise of future good behaviour, rather than to bring on its books another poor but fruitful family — Reading MercuryNickR
