Nick Reddan's Newspaper Extracts
(now including Simon de Montfort's extracts (work in progress))
— part 75

The data in my extracts includes entries that interest me from various Irish newspapers from 1720 to 1865 sorted by family name. Simon's extracts references from Longford / Leitrim / Westmeath / Roscommon and were previously on his site LONGFORD ANCESTRY in a different format. They add some bredth and richness to my own efforts.

List of newspapers and where they might be found

Main families covered by my extracts include CROKER, COOTE, DREW, SWAN and others with some relationship with them.

LEP-CS1831204NPSRYANPatrick (alias rat) A person, named Patrick RYAN, alias "rat," while running at a Steeple Chase, last week, near Hospital, County Limerick, was thrown from his horse, and had his right leg broken a little below the knee. RYAN being an excellent horseman, and coming up in the race with another person, for whom he entertained some grudge, was according to his own acknowledgment, endeavouring at any hazard to lead his companion to a most dangerous turn, with the malicious design of doing him an injury, when he himself was thrown where he had hoped to see the other's neck broken. A quack was applied to, and the fractured limb was bumbled in such a shameful manner that mortification ensued next day. Amputation has been considered necessary, and will be resorted to as soon as the upper part of the limb, which is enormously swelled, can be reduced to a state that will admit of the operation.NickR
