RYAN being an excellent horseman, and coming up in the race with another person, for whom he entertained some grudge, was according to his own acknowledgment, endeavouring at any hazard to lead his companion to a most dangerous turn, with the malicious design of doing him an injury, when he himself was thrown where he had hoped to see the other's neck broken. A quack was applied to, and the fractured limb was bumbled in such a shameful manner that mortification ensued next day. Amputation has been considered necessary, and will be resorted to as soon as the upper part of the limb, which is enormously swelled, can be reduced to a state that will admit of the operation. | |
