The brass plate contained the folowing inscription :—" Patrick Cotter O'BRIEN, of Kinsale, Ireland, whose stature was 8 feet, one inch. Child Murder
Ann ROCHE, an old woman, of very advanced age, was indicted for the murder of Michael LEAHY, a young child by drowning him in the Fleak. This case, which at ... assumed a very serious aspect, from the meaning imported to words spoken by the prisoner, "that the sin of the child's death was on the grand-mother, and not on the prisoner, and not on the prisoner," turned out to be a homicide committed under the delusion of the grossest superstition. The child, the four year old, could neither stand, walk, or speak—was thought to be Fairy struck—and the grand-mother ordered the prisoner and one of the witnesses, Mary CLIFFORD, to bathe the child every morning, in that pool of the river Fleak, where the boundaries of three farms met; they had so bathed it for three mornings, and on the last morning the prisoner kept the child longer under the water than usual, when her companion (the witness, Mary CLIFFORD) said to the prisoner, "how can you hope to see God after this," to which the prisoner replied "that the sin was on the grand-mother and not on her." Upon cross examination, the witness said it was not done with the intent to kill the child, but to cure it—to get the Fairy out of it
The Policeman, who apprehended her, on charging her with drowning the child, she said it was no matter as it had died four years ago.
Baron PENNEFATHER said, though it was a case of suspicion, and required to be thoroughly examined into, yet the Jury would not be safe in convicting the prisoner of murder, however strong the suspicion might be.
  Verdict—Not Guilty
In this case, Counsel for the Crown prosecuted.
The prisoner was defended by Messrs. O'CONNELL and H. WALSHE.

I therefore send it to you for publication. On the day appointed for celebrating Mr. O'CONNELL's return for the County of Clare, a mob of the lowest description of ruffians assembled, and a riot being considered by several of the Magistrates as likely to ensue, the military were ordered out by Major MAXWELL. A newly made Magistrate then interfered, and some warm language took place between the two gentlemen. The military, hovever, did eventually turn out, but appeared without arms, and bore green boughs in their hands, and cheered frequently for Mr. O'CONNELL.—Warder.

LC18261129NPSO'CONNELLHolmesMrSteeple Chase—We have to apprise our sporting readers that the County Limerick Fox-Hunting Club has been challenged and will run for Thursday, the 30th instant—Four Miles—to start at two, p. m. from Athalacca spire, over Cloghan Hill, and Ballygibbs-house, to the Hill of Kilmallock—Mr. CRIPPS's Bacchus, rode by Mr. FITZGERALD; Mr. BEVAN's M_At-all, rode by owner; Mr. Holmes O'CONNELL's Billy-the-Beau, rode by ——. From the known celebrity of the horses, a desparate contest is expected. Another race over the same ground will take place between Mr. CROFTS and Mr. SHERLOCK.
LC18261202NPSO'CONNELLHolmesMrSporting Extraordinary.— The celebrated Steeple Chase for the Kilmallock fox hunting cup was run for on Thursday last, by Mr. BEVAN's Mr. Astall, rode by owner; Mr. CRIPPS;s Bacchus, (the holder of the cup,) rode by Mr. FITZGERALD; and Mr. Holmes O'CONNELL's Billy the Beau, rode by Mr. STEPHENSON. This was a closely contested race from Athlacca spire to past Clogher-hill, when Mr. BEVAN shot past his antagonistson the deep ground, and beat them home to Kilmallock in a very easy but gallant style—in fact, Mr. BEVAN had it all his own way the last miles. The other race between Mr. SHERLOCK and Mr. CROFTS for 50l. was won by Mr. S. after a closely contested race.

The Ellection

Bruff:—By a communication we had on Saturday from Bruff, it is highly creditable to the Freeholders, in that district, to find, that although disposed to support their Noble Landlord in that quarter, when any member of his own family solicits their support. Yet, that they consider they would cease to be 'Freeholders,' were they to be transferable like the black cattle they are feeding to pay his Lordship's rent, to sustain the epherneral pretentions of a stranger. The address by Mr. W. J. O'CONNELL, on Friday, explained these claims, at the same time as pointing them out, nay, and, to their wives also, the bold and dauntless spirit, which has given Waterford, Louth, Westmeath, and above all, immortalized Clare, as the Athens of Irish Liberty.
