OLD SYDNEY TOWN - APRIL 2000

Another great event organised by the 73rd Regt. This year it did not rain, and crowds were over 500 each day. Regiments represented included the 95th, the 73rd, the 42nd, the French 21e and British marines (who also make excellent French).

I felt the best aspect was moving forward the development of a tactics display for the public. And we were able to run a real assault in the fields adjacent to Old Sydney town.

And one for the historians: the four infantry regiments all fought at Waterloo within a few hundred yards of each other (the British right wing).

THE TACTICS DISPLAY

1. Marching on - one erudite member of the
crowd actually recognised us as 95th Rifles!
2. OK, we are ready - bring on the French.
3. There they are - and damned enthusiastic too.
4. Never daunted - we open up.
5. The French are stubborn - so we call up the big guns. Get'em lads, we'll be right behind you.
6. Redcoats doing what redcoats do best.
We take it easy off to the right flank.
7. The French are pretty tough, so we look for an easier target. Hmm - the crowd will do.
8. The 42nd's CAPT gets us into line.
We look good - the crowd looks nervous.
9. Charge! Up close and
personal - Napoleonic style
10. Our Lieutenant feeling
pleased with himself.
